This Morning Routine Will Improve Your Mood

Every morning we are presented with a choice, whether it be consciously or subconsciously, we determine the state in which we choose to move through our day with. Our first steps into our day are the most crucial and how we take them will set the tone moving forward.

Focusing on the ever present now is at the top of my list for consciously determining how I navigate into my days. Before my feet touch the ground, I become aware of myself and my body in the present and in the now. I take time to breathe into my body, almost checking in how my is body feeling, what does it require right now? Because all we have is now, right now. In this space it is a great time to practice being mindful and use affirmations. I like to use the five Reiki principles as my positive affirmations, which are.

  • Just for today I will not worry,

  • Just for today I will not be angry,

  • Just for today I will do my work honestly,

  • Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings,

  • Just for today I will be kind to my neighbour and every little thing,

These principles are a great stepping stone into positive affirmations. On occasion I alter them as I require just by simply changing ‘just for today’ to ‘for all of today’. The power words can have over the human mind is astronomical so why not use them to empower the mind!

Making this a conscious effort before my feet touch the ground, make every moment after feeling like a blessing. At first the impact of this practice was not huge, but as it was told to me and so I with you, practice! The more you open to your body and mind the more in tune you become. We are so busy and distracted with life that we can become disconnected from our mind and body. Taking the time to practice allows for you to be reconnected with inner self, just like an appliance, it won’t work without being connected.

This practice makes being mindful a breeze. For example, each sip of water, coffee, or tea, each bite of food, becomes meaningful and enlightening. Take the time to appreciate your surroundings, take notice of your morning rituals. For example, how you shower, how you select clothing, how you prepare for your day. Be aware of how you move through your morning routine; are you taking time to be present or are you in auto pilot bustling through your morning?

Something I like to do once I have set my tone for the day, is to take my morning beverage outside. I am very blessed to have a patch of greenery where the morning sun kisses the surface, and I take the time to stand barefoot, feet to earth. I allow the sun to shower me with its warmth and energy. It is in that moment I count my blessings for what I am grateful for and to affirm who I want to be today, every day and all day.

I like to do this before my day begins, before I shower and ready myself, even if it is just for 5 minutes, this allows me too not only mentally ready myself but energetically. Imagine being able to choose who you are going to be each day before it starts. Well, that is what this is, you make a conscious decision to calm, balance and ready yourself, and affirm this is who I am and who I will be!

I have found this practice especially powerful going through my own transformation, as it is an opportunity to remind and affirm who I am, who I want to be and who I will be moving forward.
